Dr. Johnie Dean

Assistant Director and Accompanist for The Lexington Singers
Dr. Jefferson Johnson
Dr. Johnie Dean lives in Lexington, Kentucky, where he is actively involved in higher education and church music. He serves as an Associate Dean at Asbury University. In addition, he is the Assistant Conductor and Arranger of The Lexington Singers. Dr. Dean received his Bachelor of Music degree from Campbellsville University and his Master of Music degree in composition from Southern Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky. His Doctor of Musical Arts degree in composition was granted by the University of Kentucky. Johnie arranges and orchestrates much of the music for UK's Grand annual Night for Singing programs, Alltech's Celebration of Song, and the Lexington Singers' annual Pops Concerts.

A Kentucky native, he has been composing and arranging music over 40 years and has had more than 200 published works. A recent published work, The Pirates of Penzance Medley, National Music Publishers, was performed by the Florida All-State High School TTBB Chorus and by the Texas All-State Men’s High School TTBB Choir. Other recent published works include three piano collections published by FJH Music Publishing Company in Ft. Lauderdale, FL, a solo piano CD of his arrangements titled I Need Thee Every Hour, and numbers included on The American Spiritual Ensemble’s Christmas CD. Dr. Dean accepts commissioned numbers throughout the year; his most recent commissions include the Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra and New Jersey Symphony in 2024, and Opera Orlando in 2025. Johnie and his wife, Mindy, have two daughters and four grandchildren.​
