The Lexington Ringers will be auditioning new ringers for the upcoming 2025-26 season.
The audition will consist of the following elements:
  1. Group Sight Ringing - Pieces of various difficulty will be read by the entire group together.  Assignments will change between pieces so that ringers can demonstrate flexibility.
  2. Handbell Notation Familiarity - Ringers will be scored on recognition and demonstration of handbell notation
  3. Rhythm Exercises - Execute several exercises using one bell
  4. Multiple Bell/Switching Exercises - Execute several exercises using more than one bell.  These exercises use bells that are typically assigned to one ringer.
  5. Form - Ringing technique will be evaluated
  6. Commitment - Each ringer will be interviewed.  The discussion will cover the general commitment expected, specific requirements for the upcoming year, involvement in other groups, etc.
Notes:
  • The audition may be recorded for evaluation that cannot be evaluated live.  This is especially helpful for the group sight reading portion.
  • The main intent of the audition is to find the most qualified, committed ringers for the upcoming season.  It is also important that the group have adequate coverage for all 5 octaves (including low bass and 4-in-hand treble ringers).  More flexibility will increase your score.
  • You can prepare by practicing the exercises on this page:  Audition Exercises You do not need to play them all, but plan to demonstrate as many of these as you feel comfortable doing.
Here is some important information about membership in the Lexington Ringers:
  • We rehearse each Monday evening from 5:30pm to 7:00pm, usually starting in late August or early September and ending in May.  No rehearsals will be held during the Dec-Jan holiday break or during the summer. 
  • Rehearsals for the 2025-26 season will begin on Monday, August 25th.  No rehearsal will be held on Labor Day, September 1st.
  • We will perform several concerts throughout the year, including a Christmas concert in December, a spring concert (usually in May) and occasional additional performances, including collaborations with the Lexington Singers.
  • Membership dues are $25 per semester.
