Join the Lexington Singers Children’s Choir for the finale of their twenty-third season.
The Lexington Philharmonic and The Lexington Singers join forces under the direction of LexPhil Music Director, Mélisse Brunet and Dr. Jefferson Johnson, Conductor and Artistic Director for Lexington Singers. The program opens with Illuminare by Elaine Hagenberg, a work for chorus and orchestra that contrasts darkness and light - “but as light gradually returns, hope is restored, illuminating our future and guiding us in peace” says Hagenberg.
The program continues with Kentucky-native and virtuosic violinist Tessa Lark, who will perform Michael Torke’s SKY Concerto. Inspired by Lark’s bluegrass roots, the concerto “sounds like it descended from the mountains” (Texas Public Radio), offering a sense of openness and wonder - “like looking up into the expanse of the SKY,” as Torke describes.
The evening concludes with one of the most iconic works in the orchestral repertoire, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 5, whose unmistakable opening and dramatic arc have captivated audiences for generations.

The Lexington Singers will be presenting the World Premiere of Elaine Hagenberg's "Aeterna Via", her new major work for chorus and orchestra as well as several other selections by Ms. Hagenberg, including several movements from her first major work, "Illuminare". This concert will also feature the LSCC Advanced and Chamber Choirs performing selections by Ms. Hagenberg.
"Aeterna Via" will be premiered at Performance International’s June 2026 Festival in Paris, France where the Lexington Singers will perform as the anchor choir.
Due to the stature of Ms. Hagenberg as a contemporary composer who is in demand world-wide, this new work is certain to become a staple of the choral/orchestral repertoire. The Lexington Singers are proud to be premiering this important new choral piece. Conductor Jeff Johnson said “To be selected at THE choir that will present the first-ever performance of this work is a great honor. The Lexington Singers are excited to share this music with the rest of the world.”
